BLOCKADE AND NEVER-ENDING TRAUMA IN GAZA

On 23 October 2026 Ilan Pappé, Israeli historian in academic exile, and Yasser Abu-Jamei, psychiatrist and Director General of the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme now in Italy, took part in a meeting organized by the Neapolitan group of ‘Sanitari per #Gaza’, Italian health workers against the genocide. In Pappé’s speech you will find a brief summary of the history of the various forms of blockades and sieges imposed on the Gaza Strip since 1994. Jamei, in his passionate and painful speech, argued that the blockade and/or the siege might be traced back to 1967, 1948, or even 1918. In his academic activity, as well as on the ground in Gaza, he also outlines a path to heal the trans-generational and perpetual trauma that people in the Strip are going through: collective healing is needed, especially because classical medical taxonomies and regular therapies cannot be applied in an unprecedented genocidal war, after decades of illegal occupation and colonial depredation. #FanrivistaEnglish
